Mitsubishi Outlander is a car that is especially popular with Russian motorists. The second generation of this crossover (with the prefix "XL" in its name) literally conquered everyone with its sporty style, irrepressible zeal on the roads and unpretentious operation ... Thus, the time has come for the third generation Mitsubishi Outlander (it first appeared at international auto shows back in 2011, and was presented in "serial performance" at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show).

Already in 2014, the "third Outlander" was lightly restyled - the bulk of the changes are concentrated in the front of the car (which is very clear from the photo).

And also: the shape of the rear bumper and the "pattern" of 18 "rims have slightly changed, wheel arch extensions have appeared, and the taillights have acquired LED technology ... In addition, the suspension settings and sound insulation have been improved, and the cooling system of the variator has been updated.

In general, we can say that the appearance of the third generation Mitsubishi Outlander (in comparison with the second one) has certainly changed, but not so much that it would be impossible to recognize “familiar features” behind it ...

The contours of the body remained the same, in fact, as did its dimensions (changed only by a few centimeters): the length of the crossover is now 4 655 mm (increase + 15 mm), the width has remained unchanged - 1,800 mm, and the height has slightly "sagged" - to the mark in 1,680 mm (- 40 mm), while the clearance was 215 mm.

A slight change in the inclination of the windshield, as well as more streamlined stern contours, made it possible to improve the aerodynamic performance of the car by 7%, and the use of more light high-strength steel in the manufacture of body elements led to a decrease in the total weight of the updated crossover by almost 100 kg.

The biggest changes in appearance are seen in the front of the 3rd generation Mitsubishi Outlander, where the designers have sent into oblivion the large "mouth" of the radiator grill - which was replaced by a small and compact decorative "grille", under which there is a massive bumper with a large oblong air intake. The lower corners of the bumper are crowned with bulging "eyes" of the fog lamps, and at the top are stylish Super-HiD "Wide Vision" xenon optics with a unique multifaceted shape.

The side of the car has become smoother, has lost the volumetric wheel arches, but has found a normal rear pillar with the correct inclination.

The contours of the rear of the 3rd generation Mitsubishi Outlander "are built around the boot lid" - as if wrapped around it with a bumper and dissected by a stylish contrasting strip connecting the lights. By the way, the rear door finally got an electric drive (which many Outlander fans have been asking for so long and persistently).

The interior of the new generation of this Japanese crossover has been redesigned almost completely, only the front seats and some trim elements have remained unchanged.

The front panel has become more functional, and the ergonomics of the placement of all controls has changed towards improvement. The dashboard has acquired a color display of the on-board computer, the information content of the speedometer and tachometer has improved.

Interior finishing materials in the "third Outlander" were replaced by Japanese designers with soft plastic - in the basic configuration, and leather - in expensive vehicle trim levels.

In general, the interior of the novelty has become more attractive, modern and comfortable.

As an option, it became possible to install a third row of seats, in addition, the geometry of the rear seats was changed, which made it possible to increase the volume of the luggage compartment to 541 liters.

Specifications. In Russia, the Mitsubishi Outlander III was initially offered with only two four-cylinder petrol engines with a volume of 2.0 and 2.4 liters, but since May 2013 a 3.0-liter power unit "joined" them:

  • The two-liter power unit has an in-line arrangement of cylinders and is capable of developing up to 146 hp. maximum power at 196 N • m of torque. The upper power limit is reached at 6,000 rpm, and the torque peaks at around 4,200 rpm.
  • The second engine has the same in-line arrangement of cylinders and, with a displacement of 2.4 liters, its maximum power is increased to 167 hp, developed at about 6,000 rpm. The torque has grown to a mark of 222 N • m, and its peak is reached at 4100 rpm.
  • The third is a three-liter V6 with a maximum power of 230 hp. (at 6250 rpm) and a torque of 292 N • m at 3750 rpm.

In fact, the 3rd generation Outlander uses slightly improved engines from the 2nd generation crossover. Of the cardinal improvements, the use of an even lighter aluminum block and the installation of a catalyst in the exhaust manifold should be highlighted, which made it possible to improve the environmental performance of the exhaust with a slight loss of power. The decision to use old engines is quite justified, since these power units have already proven themselves well in Russian operating conditions and do not cause complaints from second-generation car owners.

All power units are equipped with an electronic valve timing and valve lift control (MIVEC), as well as a distributed fuel injection system, which provides the best acceleration dynamics and maximum utilization of engine efficiency.

As a gearbox for the "first two" variants, only the stepless INVECS III variator is used, for the "three-liter" one - a 6-speed "automatic", but "mechanics" is not provided even in the future.

With a two-liter engine, the Mitsubishi Outlander 3 will be able to accelerate to a maximum of 185 km / h, while it takes about 12 seconds to accelerate to the first hundred. Average fuel consumption of "kopeck piece" will not exceed 8 liters per 100 km. A more powerful engine (2.4 liters) will be able to accelerate the updated crossover to 195 km / h, spending only 10.5 seconds to accelerate to 100 km / h. Accordingly, the average consumption will increase to 9 liters. Well, the most dynamic, of course, is the 3.0-liter power unit - it picks up the "first hundred" in 8.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is 205 km / h, its average consumption is 9-10 liters per 100 kilometers.
By the way - about fuel: two "junior" motors are not picky in this regard - they may well "eat" AI92 gasoline, but for a three-liter one the manufacturer recommends not lower than AI95.

According to the manufacturer's official data, over time, a hybrid version of the Mitsubishi Outlander III crossover may appear on the Russian market, on which the PHEV power plant will be used, consisting of a 94-horsepower gasoline engine and two 82 hp electric motors. everyone. The consumption of the hybrid engine will have to be no more than 2 liters per 100 km, and the batteries will be recharged from a regular power grid.

Unfortunately, a diesel engine is not officially provided for Russia, but a diesel Mitsubishi Outlander will be supplied to European countries. This version of the car has on board a 2.2-liter diesel unit with a very low compression ratio (14.9: 1) and high efficiency rates.

The suspension for the 3rd generation Mitsubishi Outlander also did not receive drastic changes. There are still MacPherson struts at the front, but with new springs and a new arrangement of top mounts. The rear independent multi-link suspension has undergone minor adjustments and replacement of shock absorbers. All the changes made, according to the developers, are aimed at improving the stability of the car on the road and softening the reaction to various irregularities in the roadway. And I must admit that the engineers coped with their task completely - the "third Outlander" really began to react softer to bumps and pits, behave much more steadily when cornering and got rid of steep body rolls.

Mitsubishi Outlander III can be supplied as a front-wheel drive version, as well as an all-wheel drive, featuring an intelligent AWC (All-Wheel Control) all-wheel drive system. The rear wheels are connected by means of an electromagnetic clutch, the operation of which can be controlled by one push of the "4WD" button on the center console. There are three four-wheel drive modes in total: Eco, Auto and Lock. In the first case, the rear wheels are connected only when the front wheels are slipping, the second mode allows the rear wheels to turn on much more often, for example, during a sharp start, and the third mode activates permanent four-wheel drive. Mitsubishi Motors calls its all-wheel drive transmission "new", but its main difference from the previous one is that the Haldex 4th clutch is used to connect the rear wheels - as a result, the maximum transmitted torque increased by 10%, and everything else is work electronics.

In addition to the optional all-wheel drive, "Outlander" of the third generation in its standard configuration is equipped with an electric power steering, an ABS system, a brake force distribution system between the brake discs depending on the load on the wheels and a dynamic stability control system.

Options and prices. On the Russian market, the third generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander crossover 2014-2015 is presented in six configuration options at once: Inform, Invite, Intense, Instyle, Ultimate in maximum and special Sport.

The basic front-wheel drive "Inform" equipment with a 2.0-liter engine is equipped with an on-board computer, climate control, a touchscreen multimedia system with 6 speakers, heated rear window and a soft plastic interior. The cost of the car in the initial configuration is 1,189,000 rubles.
In more expensive versions, there is: full power accessories, heated seats, light and rain sensors, as well as other additional equipment. In the maximum "Ultimate-complete set", all of the above is supplemented with leather trim, side and front airbags, a start-stop system, a navigator and even a rear-view camera. The price in the richest configuration is about 1,819,990 rubles.
