In 1998, Lexus introduced to the market the second generation of the LX470 luxury SUV, built on the basis of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series, but differing from it in many ways. Throughout the life cycle, the car has gone through two upgrades, which not only made some changes in the appearance and replenished the functionality with new equipment, but also increased the output of the power plant.

"Premium Japanese" was produced until 2007, when the next generation model appeared.

The Lexus LH470 is a full-size luxury SUV with a five-door body and a seven-seater saloon.

The length of the car is 4890 mm, the height is 1850 mm, the width is 1940 mm, the distance between the axles is 2850 mm.

The roadbed is separated from the bottom by a 220 mm clearance (air suspension allows to increase the ground clearance by 70 mm). Traveling weight "470" varies from 2450 to 2535 kg, depending on the modification.

Specifications. Under the hood of the second generation Lexus LX, a V8 gasoline engine with distributed injection of 4.7 liters was installed, which initially produced 234 horsepower and 434 Nm of peak thrust, and later its output increased to 268 "horses" and 445 Nm. In 2005, after the upgrade, the engine was equipped with a variable valve timing technology, which made it even more powerful - 275 horsepower.

Depending on the year of manufacture, the SUV was equipped with a 4- or 5-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive transmission with a reduction gear and a limited-slip differential.

The "second" LX 470 was based on the chassis of the 100th series Toyota Land Cruiser and had a powerful frame in the body structure. An independent multi-link architecture was used on the front axle, while a continuous bridge was installed at the rear. "In a circle" the car "flaunted" a hydraulic suspension with shock absorbers that change the stiffness. All "470s" relied on a steering gear with a variable ratio, equipped with a hydraulic booster, and ventilated disc brakes on four wheels with ABS.

According to the reviews of its owners, this SUV has only one significant drawback - a high fuel "appetite".
Otherwise, the solid advantages are a sturdy design, excellent cross-country ability, premium comfort, prestige, comfortable suspension, powerful engine and stable behavior on the road.
