The second generation of the American "truck" Ford F-150 (in terms of the "F-Series" - the tenth generation) entered mass production in 1996 and instantly gained popularity among the public. If in terms of appearance the car was noticeably different from its predecessor, then in technical terms it mostly repeated it.

The life cycle of a pickup truck lasted until 2004, after which the presentation of its successor took place.

The "second" Ford F-150 is a full-size pickup truck with a frame body structure, which was offered in three modifications: with a single, one-and-a-half or double cab. The external dimensions of the car are as follows: length - from 5255 to 5608 mm, width - from 1847 to 1874 mm, width - 2004 mm. From the total length of 3045-3518 mm is the distance between the front and rear axles. In the stowed state "F-150" weighs from 1809 to 2127 kg.

For the second generation Ford F-150, a wide range of atmospheric gasoline units was offered:

  • V-shaped "six" with a volume of 4.2 liters, producing 203 horsepower and 342 Nm of maximum torque
  • V8 engines of 4.6-5.4 liters, producing from 231 to 310 "horses" and from 370 to 495 Em of torque
  • a 5.4-liter turbocharged V8 was also installed on the pickup, releasing 360 to 380 horsepower and 596 to 610 Nm of torque.

The gearbox is an uncontested 4-band "automatic", but there are two types of drive - rear or full.

The American pickup has a strong steel frame at the base of the structure, on which the body and cab are hung. An independent multi-link suspension is used on the front axle, and a dependent arrangement with leaf springs on the rear axle. Ventilated disc mechanisms on all wheels, supplemented with ABS, are responsible for effective braking of the F-150, and the hydraulic power steering makes control of such a "giant" easier.

The advantages of the "second" Ford F-150 are reliable and sturdy construction, high-performance engines, affordable cost (at least in the USA), acceptable equipment, good carrying capacity and a spacious interior.
The disadvantages include high fuel consumption, impressive external dimensions and cheap materials in the interior decoration.

It is worth noting that it is very problematic to find a pickup truck in Russia.
